Directions:
Travel south on Hwy 158 through Kill Devil Hills to the Town of Nags Head, continuing toward Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Just beyond the dunes, turn west onto W. Soundside Road. Follow Soundside Road until it turns into a gravel road continuing to #4306 which is the next to last house on the right.
Project Description:
20 years ago John and Bunny Adams asked me to transform their standard Outer Banks “beach box” into a more traditional “Nags Head” style cottage. We changed the roofline, added cedar shingles and shutters and a grand porch to take in the summer breezes and provide a shady place to hang out and soak in their spectacular view of the Roanoke Sound. Last year they called us again to help them with a project that we find more and more typical. As long time homeowners find the need to provide more space for their now extended families, and desire more up-to-date finishes and accessories to accommodate their increased use of the old cottages, we are frequently asked to provide the design expertise and technical ability to make those changes. In this latest update of the cottage, we removed the roof and added a second floor as well as a complete remodeling and renovation of all rooms, systems, accessories, and finishes. At completion, we had added 1000 SF of conditioned space to 1350 sf of existing space.
