On behalf of myself and the entire Outer Banks Home Builder’s Association community, we graciously welcome you to our 26th Annual Parade of Homes. Held over Columbus Day weekend, this year’s Parade opens on Thursday, October 4th at 10 a.m. and homes remain open 10-6 each day except Sunday, October 7th when the hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. With 24 entries this year, scattered from Grandy in Currituck County to Roanoke Island in Dare County, you will have the opportunity to see not only the select properties, but to experience the distinctly different vibes of different towns and enclaves. This year’s self-guided tour covers about 60 miles of our exquisite coastline, and aptly provides an introduction to the natural surroundings, as well as the creative and capable personalities who live on this outer strip of land.
In the center of the Parade magazine and on our website, you will find our detailed map and driving directions to each home in this year’s parade. There is no required stopping point, and no limit to the time you may take to complete your own personalized tour. You set the pace, and the ticket you purchase will be valid for all four days of the Parade.
We earnestly hope that you explore all 24 entries in the Parade. Each property will present itself as the offspring of a collaboration between homeowner and homebuilder and stands as a testament to that relationship. No two will be alike, and they each contribute a different perspective on today’s trends. With the 20 newly constructed homes, we are pleased to also present two large scale remodeling projects, focusing on expansion and updating functionality. And, for the first time ever, we have included two commercial entries, two hotels on the Beach Road, whose glory days have been restored by new owners through extensive renovations, rather than seeing them demolished. In another instance of paying homage to our past, you will also tour a new flat-top cottage in the dunes of Southern Shores – an “updated throwback” to a simpler time.
As you tour, should you also be seeking a builder, subcontractor or materials vendor, there exists no better opportunity than this to see them and their products up close and personal. And
for our local builders, subcontractors and vendors, the Parade is an introduction to the wider community of current homeowners, investors, and future owners that visit our unique Outer Banks each year. Building in our climate requires a blend of building science and hard-wrought experience. Our builders know the products to use and possess the skill to employ those products in an energy-efficient, weather-tight manner, while blending them with the aesthetic desires of their clients. Please feel free to speak to them, as they will eagerly share their expertise in answering your questions.
You may purchase your $10 ticket from any of the featured homes or at a sponsor location. With the ticket purchase, you receive a copy of the Parade of Homes magazine that details the locations and provides descriptions of the homes and builders. We offer this same information on our website www.obhomebuilders.org, so you may take a sneak peak at this year’s Parade of Homes in advance. Please come and join us this Columbus Day weekend, for one or all four days of our 2018 Parade of Homes. The homes featured this year are one of a kind, and we can’t wait to share them with you and your family. Thank you and enjoy your time on the Outer Banks.
Members of the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association hold themselves to higher standards when building or remodeling homes. They recognize the importance of quality work, honesty and creative thinking to ensure their clients have the best possible experience.
Whether you’re just starting out, looking to build, or perhaps remodel your current OBX home, this long weekend is the opportunity to browse, get ideas and take notes. Look at paint colors in real life, look at modern fixtures, new trends, unique craftsmanship and stunning designs. Perhaps you’ll learn something new to take back home!
As REALTORS®, part of the fun is helping our clients make the dream of home ownership on the Outer Banks a reality. The Parade offers an opportunity to tour many different style homes – in all price points and gain some local knowledge along the way. When you’re ready to make the move, make sure you talk to a REALTOR® to help navigate the process that’s right for you!
See you on the tour!
